Development Coordinator

ABOUT THE JOB

The Development Coordinator will work directly with the Director of Operations and Finance and will be responsible for researching and identifying potential funders. The preferred applicant will write coherent, organized, and compelling grant proposals, inquiries, and letters requesting funds to support Project Unity’s mission, programs, and services. Managing timely donor acknowledgements and records and donor relationships will be an important daily activity. To ensure success, the applicant must possess strong writing skills, demonstrate excellent command of English, have a general understanding of fundraising methods, and be devoted to Project Unity’s mission. The ideal applicant will be committed to working to improve community diversity, equity and inclusion, and race relations including community relations connected to law enforcement and health for disadvantaged populations. Preferred applicants have a robust attention to detail and are deadline-driven team players with outstanding multitasking abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and identify potential donors and maintain relationships with existing donors and stakeholders
  • Write accurate and compelling inquiries, letters, emails, and grant proposals requesting funds from corporate, foundation, and individual prospects
  • Monitor the status of written requests and maintain tracking system for grants and reporting deadlines
  • Manage donor acknowledgements and communications
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders
  • Maintain donor and volunteer records
  • Stay current on issues regarding race relations and social justice to help ensure programs are providing quality
    support and relevant information
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in creative writing or related field
  • Strong belief in and commitment to our mission
  • Grant writing experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with non-profit fundraising preferred but not required
  • Must be able to function highly in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (writing sample may be required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proactive self-starter requiring minimal direction on tasks
  • Manages time efficiently and prioritizes tasks to achieve results
  • Sincere interest in race relations, diversity, equity and inclusion, police relations and community building
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in communications or English a plus or experience writing proposals
