Project Unity proudly partners with the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum on its latest exhibition installment: Black Cowboys: An American Story. The exhibition highlights the role Black cowboys played in shaping the history of Texas and the American West. The exhibition runs through April 2027. For our last Listen & Learn Speaker Series of 2026, Project Unity will feature Doug Smiley who will share the other side of the Black Cowboy story, the Blacksmith. Doug’s great grandfather was a blacksmith who honed the craft of bending and shaping metal for the horseshoes of white cowboys while using the role to protect his family and land.
Join us as we take a short journey in time to hear the story of the Blacksmith, the land and the family’s tradition of the Black rodeo and showcasing horses as a spring board into appreciating the Black Cowboy exhibition now running at the Museum.
