Year of Unity Hosts “Together We Heal” Free, Family Event on Saturday, July 15 from Noon to 3PM at AAC
2nd annual event commemorates July 7th tragedy, honors fallen officers, promotes unity in Dallas, offers afternoon of family fun
(DALLAS – June 23, 2017) – On Saturday, July 15, 2017, Year of Unity will host “Together We Heal,” a free community event geared to help heal our city and bring the Dallas community and law enforcement together to commemorate the July 7, 2016 tragedy. The event will be held from Noon to 3:00 PM at the American Airlines Center (2500 Victory Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75219) and offers free admission and parking. Doors open at 11:00 AM.
The family-friendly afternoon will feature:
- Free hot dogs, drinks, and goody bags
- Appearances by current and former NBA and WNBA players
- Meet-and-greet with Dallas police officers
- Honor Guard with the Dallas Police Department
- Performances and photos with Mavs ManiAACs, Dancers, Mavs Man, Champ & Drum Line
- Free throw opportunity on the basketball court
- Photo with the Mavs Trophy
- Face painting, balloon artists, and give away prizes
“We’re honored to host our 2nd annual healing event, focused on bringing together our local community and law enforcement members. We believe in one community united and also in providing safe, family-friendly opportunities for folks to join as one,” noted Year of Unity Founder and St. Paul UMC Pastor Richie Butler. “With the help of our generous organizing partners, we’re able to provide an event at no cost to the public to come together to celebrate.”
More than 2,500 attendees are expected with celebrity guests, current and retired WNBA and NBA players, officers with the Dallas Police Department and DART, local politicians, and event emcee Chris Arnold. The event is organized by Project Unity in partnership with American Airlines Center, the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Police Department, Dallas Police Association, Black Police Association of Greater Dallas, Fraternal Order of Police, National Association of Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, Inc., St. Paul United Methodist Church, and United Way Dallas.
